What Were We Thinking?

Last week was the traditional Spring Break week here in Tupelo, so both my and Brad's family had planned trips. Neither family wanted to miss out on time with us (okay, really Emily!), and we didn't want to miss out on a free vacation, so we decided we would pack up and head out on both vacations. Obviously we were completely unaware how "interesting" traveling with a two month old can be! :)

The first trip was to Gatlinburg with Brad's family. By about noon last Saturday, we were finally packed and loaded and ready to head out. Brad's sister, Megan, rode with us to help entertain Emily. She was GREAT as we traveled the 7 hour trek. She cried only when she needed to eat, and she managed to do her big poop and stretching during that time, too. We thought we had the world's best traveling baby! We carted her all around Gatlinburg, and she seemed totally content. We had a great time and got to see some of that snow that the rest of you have been experiencing. Then it was time to come home.......
This picture sums it up best. Notice the total trip time, time spent moving, and time spent stopped. We didn't get home until about 2 a.m., and we were exhausted from all the crying. We think she had a tummy ache and was just generally sick of being in her carseat. As we pulled in the driveway that night, we agreed that we would never leave Tupelo again.

When we woke up the next morning, I started feeling really sorry for myself. I was REALLY looking forward to the beach trip with my family, and I was so upset that we had decided not to do anymore traveling. After a lunch out and a Wal-Mart run, we decided we were up for the challenge again, so we hopped in the car and headed out for Gulf Shores. God was listening to our prayers because Emily was absolutely perfect this trip. We stopped halfway there to eat supper and had to wake her up to eat and change her diaper. She drifted off again, and we didn't hear from her until we pulled in the parking lot at the condo. What a blessing!!!! We enjoyed all the great beach things-- sand, sun, outlet shopping, and restaurants. It was such a relaxing trip!

We made it back home with our car load of baby gear, and I'm still trying to catch up on laundry and general house work. It may take a month for our house to get back in shape, but it was so worth it. Emily got to experience the mountains and the beach, and her mommy and daddy got a little rest! :)

Wow. Okay, what happened on the way back from Gatlinburg??? Was there loads of traffic? I noticed y'all weren't going very fast.
I'm glad y'all went to the beach and that she was good! I'm sure it was relaxing. Good pictures, too! =)

Hey! Got your comment, and yes Grace's naps right now are usually 30-45 minutes. (She takes like 4 a day!!) :) I will randomly get a 1 1/2-2 hour nap sometimes, but I've heard this is totally normal, and the naps should be longer and fewer by 6 months! Can't wait!!! :)
