At our old house, Emily was going down in her crib--front piece taken off-- every night and was very content, but she often times wouldn't make it through all the way to the morning. Once we moved, all progress we had made went out the window, and she was back in our bed. We didn't sweat it since we had just moved, but about a month ago, Brad and I started discussing sleep training again. Brad's grandmother had a toddler bed come through her store, so Brad's mom got it for us and we set it up. Emily was excited about the bed.....but only if it was in Mommy and Daddy's room. (So it is. Baby steps to whatever works, right?!)
We still read a story and rock at night, but I put her in her new bed and she drifts off while I get ready for bed myself. The first night was rough--she woke up every hour on the hour-- but each night got easier and easier. She is now sleeping entirely through the night until about 7:30 in the morning. She'll crawl out of her bed and come stand next to our bed each morning. She'll give me a gentle little tap, and I'll hear a sweet little voice say, "Mommy." I pull her up into bed and we snuggle and chat until Daddy gets out of the shower. (She'll eventually say, "I ready to get up, Mommy.") What a special cuddle time in the morning! I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!!
Brad showed Emily how to use the screwdriver
as he put the bed together. Our girl is a BIG FAN
of power tools! :0)
