EMILY KATHRYN!!

Well, Emily has officially done her first major damage at our house. She loves to crawl on the dishwasher door as I'm loading it, and Brad has had to fix it several times already. (Yes, I try to keep her off of it, but when I turn to get something out of the sink, the girl high-tails it for the machine.) Yesterday, she crawled up on the dishwasher door again, and the whole machine shifted in the hole under the countertops. I sent Brad a text and told him we'd have to check it out when he got home. Once home, he did a quick check before we headed out to a dinner meeting, and things seemed fine. By the time we got home from dinner, water was pooling up under the hardwood in the living room. At first we panicked and thought a pipe had burst under the foundation with the sudden freezing temperatures. Then we jumped to the idea that groundwater was soaking in through the foundations. Then it occured to us that perhaps Emily's little trick earlier in the day acutally did some damage. We pulled out the dishwasher, and sure enough, as the dishwasher had shifted, it had knocked the water valve. There was a steady drip that had caused the big mess in the living room. (We were thankful this was the problem instead of foundation issues!) A pile of towels, a shop vac full of water, and a couple hours later, the water was up and fans were left in place to help things dry out over night.

Anyway, things are dried out, and we're mostly back together. I'm guessing this will be the first of many upsets that Emily causes over the years! If only they would all be this minor and easy to fix! :)

oh my. i'm glad you found it before it messed up your hardwoods. andrew is a dishwasher-climber himself. it's really hard to keep him off it.

Bummer!! I find myself using Mckinley's full name a lot more these days as well . . . I actually try to avoid opening the dishwasher when she is around, it is just too much of a struggle!

First of all, I chuckled at your title. Then my mouth dropped. I cannot believe that Rascal did that! How will you keep her from doing it again???

This is just too funny!! I am so thankful that that it did not cause anymore damage. I thought I had my hands full but it sounds like Emily could give Braden some competition!! Let the fun begin!!!!
