She Ate!

Miss Emily has made me the happiest mommy this afternoon! We've been having "issues" with sleeping (that's a WHOLE 'nother post) and eating lately. I have been worried because she has been refusing all food. All she wants to do is nurse, and she hasn't been afraid to "wait it out" while I've been struggling to get cereal, applesauce, and bananas down her with little to no success. Our pediatrician told me not to worry about it and gave us some vitamins with iron, but it wasn't until very recently that I've finally started letting go. I've finally decided that God can handle this without my help. He doesn't even need me to worry about it for him. :) So....

Just before 1:00 today, after a wee little morning nap and a poop, I decided Emily looked a little hungry. I decided to try cereal again, but this time I wasn't going to stress myself out, forcing it through pinched lips and watching her gag. I started feeding, and things looked like they were going to go just as usual. I sat back a minute to wait and started checking our voicemail. Emily heard my mom's voice on the messages and got so excited. All of a sudden (don't know if it had to do with my mom's voice or not), she started reaching for the bowl and her juice and began eating like a champ. I was putting in bite after bite without any resistance! She was eating just like she used to do when we were staying in Memphis. That girl went through 2 bowls of oatmeal cereal before she started slowing down!

Now, I realize this probably won't happen again tomorrow, and I'm not counting on this eating habit sticking. For now, however, I am going to bask in this feeling of success!

Celebrating with a little victory bath...

yay, emily! i'm so glad that she is doing better with eating. but i think you've conquered the biggest hurdle which is learning not to worry so much. unfortunately, we moms have to learn that one over and over again. here's hoping things keep going well!

YEAH!! I know that is sooo very frustrating. Braden has not been eating very well lately (I think because of teething) and it makes me feel awful so I can relate just a little bit. Hang in there! She is beautiful!

Yes- it is NO fun trying to force food into them!!! :) Grace has good days and bad days, so I hear ya! She LOVES table food though, so Em may surprise you when she starts to eat finger foods. And the sleeping thing... we STILL have not slept through the night, so don't fret-you're not alone! We've tried everything... if we let her cry instead of me feeding her, she'll go back to sleep only to wake up 30 minutes later because she's still hungry- she's like duh mom!! Come feed me and I will sleep! We're starting to get some really good long stretches though... last night she went from 8-2am, and then was down until 6, so we're seeing improvements! Just call or e-mail me if you need to, because I understand!!!! And by the way... these are THE CUTEST pictures of her ever!!!!!
