Here in Tupelo, we always have the Gumtree Festival on Mother's Day weekend. Artists-- usually from the south-- come and set up tents on the Court House lawn with their work. Bands play and the local dance company performs. My niece, Betsy, did ballet and tap performances for the festival this weekend, so we went out Saturday and Sunday to cheer her on. Brad was on call all weekend but managed to slip away on Sunday to spend a little time at the festival with us. That was definitely a wonderful Mother's Day treat. We shared a little festival food-- fried green tomatoes, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and a funnel cake. Yum!
My grandfather, Pappy, turned 88 on the 12th, so we all got together Saturday afternoon to celebrate. My mom had ordered a cake for him, and Emily somehow managed to sneak her first bite of birthday cake. She turned 4 months old on the 12th, so I guess she deserved a little birthday cake, too! :)
We had a wonderful weekend, and I enjoyed my first Mother's Day as a mommy. Emily has been such a blessing to us, and I thank God constantly for giving us such a happy, healthy, beautiful baby. She brings so much joy to our life!
