Proud Parents

Brad and I are very excited to debut the first pictures of our little one. These were taken about 3 weeks ago when I was 11 weeks, 3 days pregnant. The doctor said everything looked good and was measuring right on target for our January 13th due date. It was really neat to see that there is an actual human growing inside of me. I'm not sure that it's truly "sunken in" with me yet.

During this visit the doctor told me that I have A negative blood which can be dangerous for the baby. At birth when my blood "mixes" with the baby's (or at any other point in the pregnancy), my body will form antibodies and attack the baby because he/she most likely will have positive blood. Apparently only about 15-20% of the population is negative like me. My antibodies could hurt the baby, especially in later pregnancies because the antibodies will have had time to really build up and become strong. Long story short-- they will give me shots at 28 weeks and birth to prevent this from being dangerous to the baby. This same process will be repeated in later pregnancies as well. I was a bit freaked out with this news, but Brad assures me everything will be fine since I'm able to get the shots.

I am now 14 weeks, 4 days pregnant, and I'm feeling much better than I was. I'm not experiencing much nausea now, which is SO NICE, but I'm not able to hold much food. When I try to eat all that I'm supposed to, it comes back up! Needless to say, I'm not gaining much weight. I have a belly, so I don't know where all the pounds are going??? I've been having some dizzy spells where my ears start ringing, and I feel like I'm going to pass out. I've been able to lie down each time and have recovered quickly. My family is very nervous about all my spells, and I have promised to talk to my doctor next week when I go in.

Overall, I am doing great. I'm not sure my body likes this pregnancy state, but it only has to deal with it 6 more months, right?! :)

Thanks for the update! That was a good one! And that first picture is so clear.
My mom has A- and we're all just fine. I'm sure it's not something to stress about. The doctors see this all the time. The only time A- is not good: blood transfusions.
AND, finally, my friend Jaime threw up the whole time and only gained like 8 lbs. She had a big ole belly, 8+ lb healthy baby, and a tiny bootie. =) Baby will take what he needs. =)

I love the baby pictures when you can clearly see what's what. I know you are excited to be a mom, despite the nausea and dizziness you've been experiencing. I don't deal well w/those symptoms, not to mention the shots, etc, which keep me holding out for a baby of my own. I pray that the shots will work well for you and the baby, and that everyone will be healthy.

Isn't my grandbaby precious!! I'm glad you're not experiencing nausea as much now. Make sure you ask Dr. White about the dizziness. I'm praying every night for a healthy baby and mama. Love you, Mrs. Kathy

Your pregnancy sounds exactly like mine!!! :) Don't be surprised if your gag reflex hangs around for a bit.. fun! fun! I've had SEVERAL dizzy spells and they are scary especially if you are driving, but they say that you will very rarely actually pass out and to just lay down or put your head down. I've had to turn my A/C on full blast in the car a couple of times to "snap out of it" until I could get to work! My friend here has to get the shots too for the negative blood type, so you are not alone! Love the ultrasound pics! Just wait till you find out the sex! Then it becomes REALLY real!!! ahhh! But so fun! Love you Ang! Hope you're feeling better and better!

Angie, Loved the baby pictures...it is so fun to actually see it and realize that you aren't making all of this up and there is actually a baby inside you! :)
Interesting that you mentioned the blood type thing. Two of my high school girlfriends (due a couple of days apart in December) both have that and will have to have the shot too. When they asked me about it I had no idea, but now I know 3 people that are pregnant right now with it. No worries! Just take care of yourself! I am glad you are past (or close to being past) the sick phase...you will feel like your old self again very soon! We will be praying for you and baby! Love you!

Hey-I have heard of the A + blood thing. It will be fine, I know:) you are more than welcome to come help me put my class together. It hurts to get out of bed much less think about my classroom. Since I left in January I've only seen my classroom a few times and can only IMAGINE what it looks like now. I dread going back:)!!!! :) Love you!

Exciting, exciting! Just imagine how proud you'll be of pictures of your baby once it's actually born, knowing how proud you are of an ultrasound picture! :) Hang in there and don't stress about "all that you're supposed to eat." It's actually less than many of the "books" say you need.

Your baby looks adorable!! Just so you know, I'm O- and just had my shot about 4 weeks ago. It was no big deal - just a prick in the booty! And then they'll test the baby right away and if she's + then I'll get one more shot. The dr didn't make a very big deal about it. So try not to worry! And I have to say that even though I only have about 6 more weeks to go, I'm still not sure it's really sunk in for me either that there will be an actual baby at the end of all this!

Ang- just got your message on my blog... Hairspray it totally appropriate for an 11 year old! It's so good! My good friend took her 7 year old, so I'm sure she would be fine! :) Hope you are starting to feel better soon!! Just wait till you have to add in the joy of being kicked while trying to go to sleep at night! :)

Wow! I'm your 18th comment??! That's got to be a record for you. Yes, Ben learned to count that way- he hates us to tell that story. =) But it worked! =)

Andy's grandmother had the same deal with her kids, and they were able to deal with it, even over 50 years ago! You look great, enjoy your rest as the rest of us go back to school! Love, Bethany
